Just like any other flooring material, it can lose its luster look and become dull with time. Thankfully, you don’t have to hire a professional for travertine polishing. It’s a simple exercise you can do on your own. With these 6 simple steps, you can restore the attractive look of your travertine: Follow The Steps Below To Learn The Art Of Travertine Polishing

Step 1: Remove Any Build-Up Material

Before you get to the polishing part, you have to get rid of any build-up material to ensure that the surface is clean enough.
Any dirt or wax attaching itself to the surface will make it difficult to polish well.
A travertine stripper will do a good job here. You can use a mob to apply the stripper on the surface of the floor.
Make sure that you achieve an even coating of the stripper on the floor.
Lastly, mop with plain water to ensure that you do away with the dirt and wax.

Step 2: Steam Cleaning

The steam cleaning step goes a long way to ensure that you give the floor a high level of cleaning.
In this step, you’re making sure that you remove any remaining stripper and dirt on the floor.
It’s during this step that you get rid of any scratches or stains attached to the surface of your travertine floor.
Moreover, if there’s any grout on the tiles, this is the time to remove it through steam cleaning.
If you have to experience a top-quality travertine polish, you can’t avoid steam cleaning.

Step 3: Repair Wherever Necessary

After the steam cleaning process, it’s now time for repairs,
if any. For a beautiful new look, you have to make repairs wherever necessary.
Check out for holes, chips, or cracks on the surface of your floor. If any, use filler compounds for full and comprehensive repair.
Epoxy is a viable choice for a filler compound you can use to make effective repairs.

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to have a perfect job in this step.
After the repairs, allow for some sufficient time before the next step kicks in.
An important point to note here is that the material you use for repairs should match the color of your travertine floor.

Step 4: Protect your Furniture

Remember to protect your furniture as you do the polishing.
You can opt for waterproof tape to offer effective protection to your furniture.
Better still, you can move the furniture to a different room until you’re through with the process.
This will give you a guarantee that your assets will be safe from polish solutions.
If the solution pours on your valuables, it will be a messy affair and you don’t want that to happen.

Step 5: Travertine Polishing

Now it’s the time for travertine polishing. You need a buffing machine for this process.
You can rent this machine to get the job done. There are two methods you can use in this process.
The first method is the use of different grit pads. Place the pads at the bottom of the buffer machine to allow you to polish the travertine gradually.
This method removes any scratches, stains, and imperfections on the surface of your travertine floor. A mixture of low and higher grit pads will give you a shiny polish that will restore your travertine to a new luster look.

The second method involves polishing powder. Check the instructions to determine how much polishing powder the buffer machine needs for the job. Sprinkle the powder on the floor and use the machine to polish the surface.
Remember, the superior the grit and the more you use the powder, the shinier your floor appears.

Step 6: Clean Up and Seal the Travertine Surface

As you have noticed, the travertine polishing process involves several steps.
Therefore, after you are through with the polishing bit, you should clean up the place. After the buffing process, use water to clean the surface.
Allow it to dry completely and then use a sealer to safeguard the polished surface. You can use a sealer of your preference.
Remember to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for quality results.

These steps will help restore your travertine floors to their original look.
The dullness on your floor will be no more if you spare some precious time for fine travertine polishing.
